Its like a bag of sand!

It’s like a bag of sand! I was going to save this post for whenever my summer job had given me enough witty, engaging stories to constitute an entire entry, but in light of some less-than-important recent events, I decided to put up a short post. 1: I got pushed off the MIT Admissions front page. If you obsessively (or even just sporadically) read the blogs, then you probably know that this happened quite a while ago. My days have been filled with RA training for the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University, which Ill affectionately refer to as either CTD or nerd camp from here on out. Our week-long training was almost entirely composed of twelve different authority figures telling us not to kill the kids and a psychologist delivering sweeping, vaguely inaccurate generalizations about gifted students. (These children are cognitively advanced, but only at the expense of being emotionally and even physically delayed And to think, my gifted teachers just said I was special.) theres more to it, of course, but do you really want me to elaborate? Anyway, working with the kids (all of whom moved in on Sunday) has left me no time for the essential things in life, like sleeping (I HAVE TO BE AT BREAKFAST BY 7 AM EVERY SINGLE MORNING FROM NOW UNTIL AUGUST. WHATS UP WITH THAT?!) and spending too much time on the Internet. Its just as well, since this post has nothing to do with nerd camp and instead has to do with 2: My first full day off, which was on Tuesday. I took advantage of this day and set out on a Very Important Mission. You can tell that my Very Important Mission was Very Important because it took six months to complete. Also, I keep capitalizing the Very Important descriptor. Back in December, I got a Christmas present from my close friend Adrian. In true Adrian fashion, this gift had the following characteristics: -It was something I absolutely loved. -It was something really, really obvious that no one else had thought of before and that, consequently, I had never received. -It was absolutely riddled with issues. See, this gift was a $40 gift card to Virgin Megastore. Attempting to redeem the thing has been one of the most frustrating experiences ever. EVAR. Netspeak is absolutely necessary here. This is because every Virgin Megastore in the Eastern United States is closing or has shut down. The Miami location closed not two weeks after Adrian got the card, and the Boston store had been nonexistent for over a month when he gave it to me. Fine. I can just use it online, right? After all, the web address is displayed in a splashy font across the front of the card. As it turns out, virginmega.com a subsidiary of Amazon DOESNT ACCEPT VIRGIN MEGASTORE GIFT CARDS. Thats right. The Virgin Megastore website does not actually sell anything itself, instead redirecting you to Amazon. I have yet to understand this. What store doesnt allow you to buy things off its own website? Was there some revolutionary logic involved in making this decision, or is it one of those things that just managed to slip through the minds of every single person in a management position? Had I called customer service, the only response they could have possibly given me would most likely run along the lines of, Whoops! Sorry for the inconvenience, but we only sell things in our actual stores! Looks like youll have to go to the nearest open location in Chicago! Come on, quick like a bunny theyre closing in two weeks! This is, of course, exactly what I ended up doing. I flew thirteen hundred miles and spent a full day in the pouring rain for the sake of getting a Busdriver CD, Young Galaxys debut album, and The 40-Year-Old Virgin on DVD. And yeah, I came up here for that summer job thing too. That, however, is another story to be told another time, like after tonights dance. Ill be sure to fill you in on my four hours of racing around with a flashlight and a ruler No grinding, guys! NO GRINDING!

The Changes Of Marriage During The 1950s - 966 Words

The changes of marriage in the United States Marriage is a relationship is about coming together in which two people have promised themselves being with each other. However, marriage in the United States has changed in the 1950s from what it is today. Marriage in the 1950s was different because there was no such idea of a divorce because women had to fix their marriage. (Tartakovsky). Yet, marriage that occurs today people can get a divorce in America. Marriage is better today in America than in the 1950s because of more freedom and not being pressured into marriage in society. This time period 2015 for me is more preferable to live in for marriages instead of in the 1950s. Although marriage is a union between two people, there is a†¦show more content†¦(Rampell). Women who are married today have more freedom working, but women who were married in the 1950s did work during World War II. However when World War II ended, women had to returned home from their jobs because the men were coming home from the war. (Stoneham). This is when many women lost their sense of independence because they had to provide for their husband and children again and some women stayed at their jobs in the 1950s. Next, many women were under the age of nineteen got married in the 1950s and started their families with their husband (PBS). Women that went to college in the 1950s did not have a college degree because they potentially had to look for husband or else was in danger of being an old maid if they were not married. (PBS). It is different today because women can get married in the United States at any age and not be part of a social norm that happened in the 1950s. Partners that marry young in their early 20s today have a higher chance for divorce than partners who marry after the age of 25. (Pearlman pg. 203). According to Amato and Rogers (1997) says reasons that young married couples have problems in their marriage is because of infidelity, jealously, lack of maturity, and financial problems (Pearlman pg. 204). People also marry young because of the wrong reasons in today’s society For example, this wife was married to her husband because both

The Children Of Prison Inmates Ending Up Within A...

One very important criminological issue that I will be discussing throughout my research essay is, What factors contribute to the children of prison inmates ending up in a penitentiary prison. During my research I will be going over all of the social factors that go on through the family as well as the community and how much of an emotional toll is actually put fourth on to the children of these inmates. Another very big concern I will be going over is that if these children do end up turning to crime, what percentage of children with parents in jail actually turn to it and do their parents ever encourage or try to discourage crime through their children. Some of the criminological theories that I will be discussing include Social Learning Theory, Social Disorganized Theory, and Social Strain Theory. The first type of theory I will be talking about will Social Learning Theory, there are different types of social learning theories that could be associated with and the most relevant one I came across was the Personality and Crime Theory. The Personality and Crime Theory deals with the different types of stable, distinctive pattern of behaviour, thoughts and emotions. A lot of these types of characteristics comes into effect with the children once the parent is in prison because before the parent leaves they usually would have already made a bond with their child and once they leave the child will find it very hard to bond with another person because they have had a badShow MoreRelatedWhy Are Prisons Still Successful For Helping Prevent Crime?1180 Words   |  5 Pages In the UK, the prison population has more than doubled in less than 20 years. Managing Conflicts in a Mediated World Free Essays

Chapter 5 provides an in-depth analysis of dimensions and dynamics of conflicts, as they exist in communities.   As indicated in the chapter, the community is awash with conflicts given the fact that every single facet of life can produce conflicts.   For instance interpersonal relations amongst members results into conflicts. We will write a custom essay sample on Managing Conflicts in a Mediated World or any similar topic only for you Order Now    In access of resources in a given community members of that community are likely to be involved in conflicts in the competition of resources especially in situations whereby resources are scarce and there exists no proper structure in society to lead to the fair distribution of the resources. It is better to prevent conflicts where possible than waiting the conflicts to take place and then resolving them.   However as Dalton, and Kellet, (2001) observes, the conflicts witnessed in communities are bound to occur as preventing the conflicts is not very practical given the fact that sources of conflicts are very diverse and very difficult to predict. In a community conflicts are bound to arise and resolution of conflicts involves a good understanding of conflict resolution strategies such as avoidance, win-win and accommodation.   Personally, I have been involved in conflicts with my brother, which really left me feeling like it was wrong and unacceptable to get into conflicting situations with my brother. However the content of chapter five has opened my thinking and enabled me to understand that conflicts do not have always to be wrong or negative. Indeed conflicts if resolved well are a source of great learning.   Whenever I differ with my brother, I will be looking at it as an opportunity to learn more and understand ourselves better.   Especially in cases whereby the conflicts result from differences in opinions, the conflict situation should serve to build our relationship and learn a lot from each other.   Conflicts enable people to come up with the best solutions to problems considering the fact that after brainstorming on the opinions generating the conflict, one is likely to settle for the best solutions especially where a win-win conflict resolution strategy is preferred.   Conflicts on the other hand can negatively affect the quality of life of those involved in the conflict especially in cases whereby people fail to resolve such conflicts amicably. Chapter 6 Chapter 6 provides a deep insight on how to identify conflicts in the work place as well as the different strategies, which can be useful in work place conflict resolution strategies.   Chapter 6 identifies major sources of conflicts in the work place as poor team leadership, difference in opinions, personal differences as well as various cultural diversity in the work force as well as in situations whereby the organization recruits staff from various backgrounds. Cultural differences as a source of conflicts is more common in cases whereby the organization is either a multinational corporation or it has presence in many countries or in some cases, it out sources from offshore. Work place conflicts just like conflicts in the community could have both positive and negative effects on job performance and employee morale depending on how well they are resolved. The management must be able to identify and deal with conflicts as and when they emerge.   This is necessary considering the fact that the organization largely relies on teamwork to function smoothly and any source of conflicts, which serve to prevent smooth coexistence of employees, must be identified and dealt with before they get out of hand and interfere with job performance. Conflict resolution strategies in the work place include avoidance strategy, win-win strategy and accommodation strategy and should be administered to all suitable situations to resolve disputes and conflicts in a positive manner.   The major reason why managers need to have good conflict management skills is the fact that the success of an organization is largely determined by how well the managers can organize workers to function as teams as opposed to functioning as individuals. Therefore conflict management calls for the mangers to form teams, which can work well despite the challenges and end up achieving the much-needed synergetic effect.   Chapter 6 helps us to appreciate the importance of conflict resolution in the work place as well as the negative effects of failing to resolve conflicts as they emerge.   As noted in the chapter failure to properly resolve conflicts can result into a reduction in job output as well as likelihood of an increased employee turn over for those employees who feel discontented with the management of the organisation. That is worst-case scenario resulting from conflicts and organisations though the management are supposed to prevent such eventualities by practicing good conflict resolution strategies. By appreciating the causes of organizational conflicts one is able to negotiate the conflicts and come out of the conflicts stronger.   Personally I have in some instances been engaged in conflicts with work mates. For example I was once put in the same team in the production department with a colleague with whom we always had different viewpoints of dealing with situations at work.   However I learnt to use the accommodative strategy as opposed to the avoidance strategy and as such I was able to overcome the conflicts.   From the conflicts, I learnt that the solution to conflicts was in resolving them but not ignoring the problems.   I also learnt that conflicts should not interfere with job performance and thus should be resolved as soon as they occur. Chapter 7 Chapter 7 provides a deep insight on how to identify conflicts in the family as well as how to deal with those conflicts.   Unless well resolved, the family conflicts are likely to spill over to the community and eventually to the work place. Therefore conflict resolutions at the family level are very important in achieving a coherent society whereby people coexist well. Poor conflict resolution strategies in the family often lead to domestic abuse, child abuse as well as elder abuse.   Therefore putting the needed effort inorder to deal with the family conflicts is very desirable in that it is likely to cause harmony not only at the community level but also in the work place.   Families are an integral part of the society especially given the fact that human beings are social beings who need love, care and recognition.   The quality of relationship a family is involved in has been found to have an impact on the unity of the society. Family relationships are complex and understanding of expectations both male and females have of each other is a daunting task.   The fact that relationships are both dynamic and situational further complicates the nature of relationships. To ensure that, families continue to play their role in the society, there is a need for proper conflict resolution strategies to solve challenges which emerge and threaten the very existence of the family as an institution. However, it is not possible to achieve such unity, harmony and organization without proper law structures and system to protect the rights of the family to exist as well as that of the child to belong to the family and be treated in accordance with the law.   Despite the existence of laws governing the family and children, problems and challenges continue to face today’s families. With the divorce and separation rates soaring up disproportionately, more and more people opting not to marry, the family as a core part of the society is constantly under threat. Conclusion Personally I have really admired the conflict resolution skills of my parents who have been able to keep our family together and very united.   When I start my own family I will always apply the necessary conflict strategies for example avoidance, accommodation or win-win strategy to resolve conflicts. The Battle of the Sexes Essay Example For Students

The Battle of the Sexes Essay The most controversial topic in history has been, Who is more superiorman, or woman? Be it from the men ruling cro-magnum age to the dominating womanof the nineties, the only acceptable answer is a yes to both sides. Men havethere strong points as do women but they are in different areas. Men tend tobelong in the workforce as heavy laborers and women behind the desks, women canhave children and men cannot, and mens sports tend to be more popular thenwomens. Most men are Physically built stronger then women. They have theability to do more physically demanding jobs such as construction, movers, bouncers at bars, and many of the other jobs that involve strength and power. Women arent all unable to do these jobs so they are forced to work assecretaries, clerks, and many of the mentally demanding office jobs. There areexceptions though such as the big 250 pound butch women and the skinny frail menwho switch roles and that is perfectly fine. This becomes a problem when themassive dumb man wants to be a successful secretary with his amazing eight wordsper minuit typing speed and the skinny little twig woman wants to be alumberjack. Men and women have to realize that some jobs are meant for someonemore fitting then what they are. We will write a custom essay on The Battle of the Sexes specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now When god created women, he gave them the ability to have children. Thisadvantage kind of gives women superiority over men. Im sure if men were ableto they would have children, but they cant. Back in the eighteen hundreds itwas expected that women stay home and take care of the children and the menwould work and bring home the money to support the family. Today there is stillthe man that goes out and works for a living and the woman who stays home andwatches the kids, but we are steering toward a balance between the two. Families consist of two working parents and children. This compromise showssigns of gained equality on the womens side. What is the first thing that comes to your head when you hear the wordhockey? Is it Wayne Gretzky? Or maybe the Edmonton Oilers. One thing that youdefinitely dont see is a pack of women chasing a ring around the ice withsticks. Hockey to the male is an aggressive sport of blood and guts with enoughexcitement to keep you intoxicated with the thrill of the sport for the twohours that it is on. Womens hockey or ringuette may be exciting but it doesnthave the louring violence that hockey has. Just listen to the name ringuETTE,anything that ends in ETTE has to be a womens sport. If ringuette was half asgood as hockey they would have Ringuette Night in Canada, however they do not. The same goes for football and baseball, men simply have this area of dominationin the bag. In conclusion, it would not be fair to say that men are better thenwomen or that women are better then men. What you can say is that there aresome things that women can do better then men and there are some things men cando better then women. But when it comes down to it, men are still ahead ofwomen. In the future though we will probably end up equal after all we did havea head start and just like the black Americans, equality was not reachedovernight. Category: English

How to Study for the SAT

How to Study for the SAT SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The SAT is an extremely important test for those planning to attend college. It's definitely not one to neglect or ignore until the last minute. Preparing for the exam is the only way to make sure you're doing your best on test day. Well, that's all well and good, but how exactlydo you study? It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the prospect, or else overloaded by information from a number of different sources all claiming to have the answer to every one of your testing woes. Read on for myvery best suggestions on how to study for the SAT, based on my extensive experience as a tutor.I'llcover eachstep you need totaketo improve your score, from finding the best SAT practice tests to setting a goal to fine-tuning your section strategies. After reading this article, you'll know exactly how to prepare for the SAT. The 3 Guiding Principlesof SATPrep While we've gotplenty of specific advice on how to studyfor the SAT, there are also some more general concepts that underlieall aspects of theprocess. #1: Personalize Your Program It's crucial that you individualize any plan to fityour needs. We might be the experts on the SAT, but you're the expert onyou. All the suggestions in this guide should be looked at with the understanding that you can tweak them to fit what you, individually, need. If, for example, you need to study three times a day for a shorter period of time rather than knocking it all out in one chunk in the evening, that's fine. If the opposite is true for you, that's fine, too. Do what will work best for you. #2: Leave Plenty of Time to Study If you're looking for an improvement of 100 points or thereabouts, three months is a good amount of time. If you need something significantly more substantial, though, you might want to stretch that timeline out to six months. This means you should have a good idea of your goal at least six months before the SAT. This ensures you'll have time to takeappropriate action, even if that action is letting it rest for three months. Get that test date on your mental calendar. #3: Do What You Can With What You Have It's always better to do something than it is to do nothing. For instance, if you don't have the aforementioned three tosix months, use what you do have to your best advantage. If you simply can't take a practice exam in one sitting without getting interrupted, take it in several sittings. Not having ideal circumstances is not an excuse to sit on your hands and do nothing. SAT Study Plan: 10-Step Process Now that we've established the basic ideas you need to keep in mind, let's coverthe actual steps of how to study for the SAT. Step 1: Read Up on the SAT Find out any information you're not sure about. What is the SAT? How is it scored? What score do you need to maximize your chances of getting into your dream school? Find the answers to all these questions (and more) on our extensive SAT blog.In short, spend time learning what to expect from the test so that you'll be prepared for what it looks like and how to approach each section and question type on test day. Step 2:Take Your First Practice Test This first attempt should definitely be anofficial practice exam. This is the closest you can get to an actual SAT without taking it. Published by the College Board, official practice SAT tests are extremely representative of the SAT. Do your best on this first run-through;itwill serve as your baseline, indicating how well you are currently able to perform on the SAT. In the same vein, it's important totake this test under actual exam conditions. Sit in a quiet, well-lit room and time yourself using official time constraints. This will help your practice score be as accurateas possible. Step 3:Score Your Practice Exam Spend some time reflecting on your results. Review every question you got wrong, determining why it was wrong and why the correct answer was right. If there are any questions you got right by guessing, try to nail those down, too. Most official practice tests includeanswer explanations, which area great tool you can use to aid your studying. You can also try plugging the right answer back into the problem and working through it with the end in sight. Does it make any more sense this way? Don't ignore outside resources, such as your teachers, tutors, or parents.Ask someone when you need help figuring something out. Once you've got a grip on your answers, use this information to determine your strongest and weakest areas of the test. The SAT includes subscores, which will help you zero in specific types of problems, so don't forget to pay attention to those results, too.The areas in which you struggle more consistently are the areas you're going to focus on in the coming weeks. Your results might not look like this the first time through. Step 4:Set a Goal Score You know what the SAT is like, and you know how you perform on it. Now, take time to consider what a reasonable goal score might be for you. This goal should be achievable: don't expect a 600-point increase over your practice score. It's fine to set a goal that's a stretch, though. Don't give up on your dream school just because one practice exam didn't come back in the full glory you'd hoped for. To set a specific SAT goal score, you'll need to know the average scores of admitted applicants to the schools you're applying to. Your goal score must be higher than these averages to give you the best chance of admission. For more info, take a look atour step-by-step guide on how to set an SAT goal score. Step 5:Decide What Tools You'll Need to Use Consider how far you have to go to reach your goal score as well as what resources are available to you. The more of a gain you need to make, the more intensive your methods will need to be. Consider whether it's reasonable to think you can afford individual tutoring, a group class, or an online prep program. The SAT is important, no doubt, but there's no use in overstepping the bounds of your means for it. Do what you can with what you have. As you gather resources, be savvy about evaluating them. Are they official (endorsed by the College Board) or unofficial? Official resources are best becausethey mimic the test as closely as possible. If you're looking at an online program or tutor, what kind of credentials do they boast? Have students who've used them seen a lot of improvement? These are the sorts of questions it's important to ask yourself. Now, you can always work solo. There are plenty of resourcesyou can use to correct any issues that come up, including SAT books, prep websites, apps, and the SAT's partner siteKhan Academy. These resources can be very helpful, and many of them are free. Realize, though, that working entirely on your own with resources like these might not be enough. Think about what other resources you can access if possible. You can also work with an online prep program. These are great because they personalize their recommendations based on your performance, provide plenty of personal attention to tracking trends in your work, and are generally more affordable than in-person options. Unfortunately, you're missing that in-person contact that can be sovaluable. Another option is to work in a group class. These courses are a great way to get the support of both peers and an instructor. You can ask questions and review the content that's most important to you. Classes are also more affordable, in most cases, than individual tutoring. The degree of personalization, however, suffers because of the group format. Finally, you can work with an individual tutor, eitheronline or in-person. This option maximizes the individual and purely custom attention you get;you get an expert walking you, personally, through every step of the way. That being said, prices are frequently prohibitive, and your time with your tutor will probably be limited week by week. Whatever tools you're using, make sure they help you learn. Step 6:Set a Pattern of Practicing Generally, if you've given yourself plenty of time, you should be looking at somewhere between30 minutes and three hours a sitting- closer to 30 minutes if you're practicing daily, and closer to three hours if you're only practicing a couple times a week. YourSAT study plan is something to personalize.Small, manageable, regular chunks of time are ideal, but listen to your own needs. Don't cheat yourself out of study time in the name of personalization! Plan to use a combination of books and videos,as well as any class or tutor available to you (the College Board has a free Question of the Day app to look into, too). Set these resources into your regular schedule;don't plan to study for three hoursthe same day as your three-hour SAT class. Step 7:Take Another Practice Exam Ideally, this should take place about a month after you start studying. Otherwise, take it when you can, even if that's two weeks after you start or two months after you start. Just don't take it within a few days before the actual test. Frying your brain completely isn't going to help you reach your goal score on test day. Once again, score your practice test carefully, checking the explanation forevery question you got wrong. See where you've grown, where you've stagnated, and where you've backslidden. Figure out where you need to redouble your efforts and where you can ease off a little. Step 8:Adjust Your Study Plan Based on Your Progress Don't forget to stillstudy areas of consistent strength- just brush them off periodically, though, rather than dwelling in your comfort zone. With areas of persistent weakness, make sure to studythese areas using a variety of angles, and drill the problems you've already worked through until they become second nature to you. If you're backsliding, increase your attention to that topic. If you're growing, stay on course. Continue to make use of the resources that are working well for you. Step 9:Repeat Steps7 and 8 In the early stages of a more leisurely plan, take a practice test every month or so.In the later stages, bump it up to every week or so. If your study plan is more compressed, you might need to start straight away with a test every week or every other week. Try to maximize the number of practice tests you take without totally burning yourself out.Four or five practice tests is a great number to shoot for, roughly. Don't forget to adjust your study plan after each practice test based on your results. Hopefully the cycle of studying will be more stimulating than this fellow's treadmill. Step 10:Maintain Self-Care The week before the SAT, start putting the brakes on studying by slowingdown your pace. A day or two before the test, stop studying altogether.Your know what you're going to know, so there's no use stressing at this late point in time. Instead, make sure you're resting up and putting things in order for test day. Get a solid amount of sleep for at least three nights before the test.Gather your supplies prior to the morning of. Plan to eat a healthy breakfast on test day, lay out your outfit the night before, and know what time you need to leave so you'll arrive in time for the test. Reminders for Your SAT Studying When you take your practice tests, use them as an opportunity to get familiar with the format and instructions. Pay solid attention to these aspects of the exam so you don't waste valuable time on test day rereading them. In your studying, don't forget the worthof simple, active reading. It's invaluable. Try to read challenging literature across genres, and actively engage with what you're reading. This will help you do even better on the SAT Reading and Writing sections. Set minor goals as a way to achieve your major goals. For example, if your goal score is pretty far from your baseline score, aim for smaller increases in-between practice tests and try to hit those instead. Most importantly, acknowledge the progress you're making. Lastly, find a buddy- a friend, parent, guidance counselor, etc.- who can encourage you, make suggestions in your process, and hold you accountable to your goals. Conclusion: How to Study for the SAT Studying for the SAT can be daunting, but it's less daunting if you head into it with a plan. Remember to leave yourself plenty of time, assess your strengths and weaknesses, and consider all the resources available to you. Allot plenty of time for studying and doing practice tests so that you can get used to the SAT format and learn what to expect on test day. Tips for Mastering English Grammar for New Learners

Tips for Mastering English Grammar for New Learners English grammar is said to be one of the most difficult to learn for native foreign-language speakers especially because of its countless rules and numerous exceptions to them. However, many English as an Alternative Language (EAL) teachers has developed methods to help these English grammar learners through the process of understanding proper usage and style. If students follow simple, repetitive steps to understand each new element of grammar, some linguists note, they will eventually pick up on the understanding of those rules, though English learners must be careful not to forget about rules and exceptions in particular circumstances. As a result, one of the best ways to learn proper English grammar for foreign learners is to read several example sentences in grammar textbooks in order to experience every possible variation of each grammar rule. This ensures that despite the commonly held principles associated with each instance, new learners will also experience when English, as it often does, breaks the rules. Practice Makes Perfect When learning any new skill, the old adage practice makes perfect really does hold true, especially when it comes to understanding and applying proper English grammar skills; however, improper practice makes for an  improper performance, so its important for English learners to fully grasp grammar rules and exceptions before practicing usage themselves. Each element of usage and style must be looked at and mastered individually before applying in conversation or writing to ensure that new learners grasp core concepts. Some EAL teachers recommend following these three steps: Read a short clear easily understandable explanation of a grammar rule.Study several practical usage examples (sentences) illustrating that particular grammar rule. Check yourself whether you have mastered the examples.Do several exercises for that rule with communicative content with sentences that most likely can be used in real life situations. Grammar exercises that contain dialogues, interrogative and statement (or narrative) sentences on everyday topics, thematic texts and narrative stories are especially effective for mastering grammatical structures and should also include listening comprehension and speaking, not just reading and writing. Challenges and Longevity in Mastering English Grammar EAL teachers and new learners alike should keep in mind that true mastery or even understanding of English grammar takes years to develop, which isnt to say that students wont be able to use English fluently fairly quickly, but rather that proper grammar is challenging even for native English speakers. Still, learners cannot rely on real-life communication alone to be proficient in using grammatically correct English. Only understanding spoke or colloquial English has a tendency to result in misuse and improper grammar for non-native English speakers, who often omit words articles like the and to-be verbs like are when trying to say Did you see the movie? and instead of saying you see the movie? Correct oral communication in English is based on knowledge of English phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, and on practice and experience in communicating with native English speakers in real life. I would argue that first, a learner must master at least basic English grammar from books with exercises before being able to communicate grammatically correctly in real life with native speakers of English.
